About Hope Home: "Hope Home is a foster-care home for special needs children who are referred from the local government orphanage in Chiang Mai. The home was established in October 2007 and is able to accommodate seven residential children, as well as offer daily therapy/respite care to other disabled children in the area as needed. The purpose of Hope Home is to provide a loving, caring and therapeutic environment for orphaned or abandoned children who have special physical needs. Hope Home is administered by a Thai manager, Wilaiwan Numchaitospon, who has experience in community care and the Director, Judy Cook, who is a missionary nurse from the UK. It is staffed by four-full time Thai caregivers, and a live-in couple for night/general upkeep and cleaning. The home also has regular input form both overseas and local volunteers. A Thai physiotherapist was employed to train staff members in the individual needs for each child. Presently ongoing training for staff is also available through local hospital networks. The children receive additional therapy at local government hospital resource centres" (ARI Handbook, May 18th 2016). |
We did ice painting with two of the kids. One little girl would simply stare me down, didn't matter what I was doing. And that's okay we had a simple for of communication. She would look at me and I knew it was time to give her another piece of paper. As for the other little boy he was just trying to make a mess. He tried to swim in the dyed water, and splashed about half of it on the ground. Little rascal.
One little boy slept the entire time, he goes through periods where he will be awake and very active or the complete opposite.
And finally another little girl really enjoys the drums, normally we play drum videos for her and try and help her play the tambourine.
