We found out about sticky waterfalls from our friends that had already been here volunteering for a while. They said we definitely had to check it out. Sarah and I had just gotten home at 7:30 am from Doi Suthep, so we took a power nap and rallied, ready to take on the water fall. "The Sticky Waterfalls get their name from a mineral deposit that provides an incredibly grippy surface for bare feet and hands. In fact, the rocks feel like hardened sponges, callous and even slightly prickly to the touch, but surprisingly give a bit under pressure. There are also no algae or slime that adheres to the rocks, leaving a perfect canvas to climb up the waterfall. It is impressively steep in some places, but with the aid of the limestone deposits on the stones, you feel like Spider-Man!" (http://tielandtothailand.com/bua-tong-sticky-waterfalls-chiang-mai/) |
The waterfall almost looked cartoonish, with the limestone deposits forming bubble like rocks. At first we were skeptical to climb down because it was so steep. Once we started though it was a blast! We really did feel like spiderman. We climbed down all five levels. Unfortunately, my camera isn't water proof and I didn't have a go-pro, so I don't have any action shots. Essentially, we crab walked all the way down. After we climbed down we went and found a swimming hole. Once again, unfortunately, I wasn't brave enough to go in. For those who know me, they know I don't like fish or seaweed. I also couldn't see the bottom and I don't know what else could be in there... Sarah and Maggie seemed to enjoy it though. We were all exhausted to instead of climbing back up we took the stairs (big mistake) I think it was worse climbing the stairs. We celebrated the awesome adventure with some ice cream and headed on home.
