The workshop for Hope Home would be focusing on colours for two of the kids and music for the rest. The morning unfolded in a spectacular way. When we first arrived it was all hands on deck to have everything set up. Since Emma and Pepo arrived a little bit later than us, it gave the new volunteers a chance to get to know all of the children and interact.
Phrao was the cutest! Of course she stared at me like I was a crazy person again but that doesn't matter. The goal was to put a coloured ball in the matching coloured circle. Bow was a pro! She also giggled and laughed the entire time. Joey on the other hand wanted to hit the cardboard cut out and just wanted to create chaos like usual.

Inside, we were doing light therapy and hanging out with the kids. Everyone taking turns and hanging out where they felt most comfortable.
Also, Claire is doing her placement at Hope Home so we were able to hang out with her as well. She is so good with all of them.

Finally, I would say this part was my favourite. We finally got to use the Boomwhackers that we had made the week before. Some volunteers (myself included) grabbed a pair and we put on a little show. Having the kids gain curiosity and eventually take over some of the volunteers boomwhackers. Julie also played the tambourine. I must say everyone had really goo beat, we could become professionals! |

For this workshop I decided since they had no art education that I would focus on some of the basics as if they were taking an art class. Unfortunately, we only had 50 minutes and that's not very long. The lesson would be spatial representation. In the past, many of the lessons were focused on a form of art history but what I wanted to do wasn't possible because of time constraints.
I explained foreground, middle ground and background to the students, gave an example of how to make a picture using construction paper and how to place the paper to give the illusion of depth. The kids got really into! Some of them drew very elaborate pictures and set right to the task of cutting and pasting. Some of course didn't get it, which was expected and they did their best, if we were able to spend more time they would have definitely gotten it. I had so much fun and all of the volunteers got really into.
