The student will learn about the elements of the art form including:
a) sensory qualities-line, shape, texture, color
b) formal qualities-pattern, balance, center of interest
c) expressive qualities- how words are used to express moods/feelings
The student will learn technical aspects of spatter paint including:
a) ways in which to splatter paint (blowing through a straw, using a piece of card on a toothbrush or using a paint brush)
b) taping
Materials:
- White art paper
- Painter’s Tape
- Acrylic Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Black marker, or other colours
- Drop cloth (not necessary)
Hook:
The goal of this exercise is to remove regular hesitation that goes along with starting an art project. Following that theme I will have all of the kids stand up and well do a few exercises to loosen up.
- Arm Stretches
- Leg Stretches
- Wiggles
- Jumping
- Spinning
Directions:
- Place painters tape on canvas. This may be completed in any way they would like.
- Paint over your entire canvas. It is suggested that you use one colour but it should be left up to the artist.
- Splatter paint over your entire canvas with a variety of colors. (This can obviously get a bit messy. We placed a drop cloth under the table we were using in the classroom. You could also do this step outside.)
- Carefully peel off the painter’s tape to reveal your completed painting.
- After the painting has dried completely write words or phrases that describe what makes you happy or inspirational ideas.
- Never give up.
- Love unconditionally
- A beautiful day
- You can do it
- Learn from your mistakes
- Family
- Finally, glue your painting to a larger, thicker paper to create a border. Display the artwork for everyone to see.
- If students cannot write they can also complete the project without the inclusion of words.
- This can also be done with a cardboard box and marbles. Place paper in the bottom of the box, place a blob of each colour you would like to use. Place marbles, and shake box from side to side. Remove marbles and admire your beautiful art work.
- Another variation could be with the materials used for the splattering of paint. They can use a straw or tooth brushes.
